about

" ... the improvised, unmetered alap astonished the ear ... Mr. Nag's imagination flourished" NY Times

Pandit Manilal Nag, from a famous, venerable family of traditional musicians, is one of India's senior and most renowned sitarists. He is the foremost exponent today of the Vishnupur gharana (school) which retains the resonance and vitality of the ancient meditative dhrupad style. A master of improvisation, he performs duets with his daughter, Mita Nag, a highly regarded sitarist in her own right, who began her training at age four under the impeccable guidance of her, grandfather, Sangeet Acharya Gokul Chandra Nag.
